Working out what colours to use in your wedding invitations can be tricky! Below are some tips on how to get some inspiration for and then use a colour scheme to make your wedding stationery look gorgeous!
- Following through on the design and colours of your wedding invitation can be a fantastic way of uniting your wedding – from the ceremony to the reception through to your thank-you cards. Even working backwards to a save-the-date card is possible if you choose.
- Use your bridesmaids dresses as inspiration – once you’ve chosen one or more colours that your bridesmaids are all happy with, use this as your launching point for the colours of the invitations and stationery. Have a look with your stationery designer at how pairings of colours and textures take on a different feel or mood – beachy pastels on a textured card take on a different feel when paired with a stunning metallic card.
- Try and avoid an overly matched colour scheme – wedding flowers matched to cake matched to stationery; choose different shades of the colours you’ve used or expand your palette.
- Use the colours in your palette in unexpected ways – use colour printing instead of black, use a ribbon to add splashes of colour to your bonboniere boxes.
- If there isn’t a paper available in exactly the right colour, use graphic elements to add it in on top of a neutral colours such as charcoal, silver or white.
- Take a cue from your style at home – if you live in a minimalist home, a highly decorated wedding invitation probably won’t be a reflection of you as a couple.
- One of my couples had an elegant and simple theme of black and orange – the bridesmaids were dressed in black Breakfast at Tiffany inspired cocktail dresses while the bride and her bridesmaids all carried orange tulips as a nod to the groom’s Dutch heritage.
